The frustration of technology!

How many times have you entered the computer lab only to realise that your students do not have password to access their accounts?

How many times did you attempt to use new technology in classroom only to realise that your laptop does not support that new software?

How many times did you bring students to the lab only to realise that they are facebooking, msning, QQing?

Well, I do not have the ultimate solution to solve these problems. But I do know that we should not let these deter us from bringing them to the computer labs or trying out new technology.

One thing I do know is always be prepared.

1 week before a visit to the computer lab, remind students and ensure they have a valid account and password.

Bring your hps with you to call for IT assistance if technology fails on you.

Always try the software before using them in class.

Give all instructions to the students/ Do your demo before allowing them access to the computer. You can freeze their screens using the classroom management system.

Have a final aim/product in mind when assigning students work in the computer lab. Do not be too worried if they facebook, msn or QQ. Remember they are multi-tasker!

Lastly, let me share a real fact with you. The more you use technology, the least likely it will fail on you!
